Bold Butterfly

Welcome to another Create with Connie and Mary Saturday Blog Hop!  This week we our theme is FLY AWAY, so we are featuring cards with birds and butterflies.

SpringBlogHopBadge

I incorporated new and old in my card that features a beautiful BUTTERFLY.

I found a fun new color combination using the new In Color DAPPER DENIM with WATERMELON WONDER.  As you can see I also added in a bit of bling by using Silver Glimmer paper for the swirls.  I can tell you right now that the new SWIRLY BIRD BUNDLE is a MUST HAVE!!! This swirly die cut is TOO.MUCH.FUN.

Watercolor Wings

The Dapper Denim background is sponged on with areas darker and lighter for a unique look.  The silver swirl and sequins are gorgeous with these bold colors.

The sentiment in black and white pops against all the colors and gives a bold look.  I used words from the May My Paper Pumpkin kit.  This one had lots of useful sentiments that are perfect for cutting out like this.

Watercolor Wings inside

I also embellished the inside of the card.  I used a piece of the polka dot background along the bottom.  It was an extra scrap that was put to good use!  The butterflies are stamped off to be lighter so the sentiment in Dapper Denim really stands out.

Now, let’s get to the good stuff, the supply list!

More Watercolor Wings!

Guess what??  I have yet another WATERCOLOR WINGS card for you today....I told you it's my favorite set right now!  It just so happened that a butterfly was perfect for the sketch I was working with for today.  See what you think.....

Watercolor Wings Thank You

Now, take a look at the sketch I used and you'll see why this was so perfect for it!

Sketch+51-001

When I first looked at this week's sketch from Try Stampin' -or not- on Tuesday, I saw leaves for the stripes.  And instead of adding a flower, I added a BUTTERFLY!

Watercolor Wings Butterfly

I went simple doing just one layer and used one of the more unusual color choices that I came up with and shared a couple of weeks ago.  The first layer of color is Mint Macaron stamped off once, second layer of Tip Top Taupe and finally a third layer of Cucumber Crush.

Watercolor Wings by Be Creative with Nicole

After the butterfly was in place, the card still needed a couple of things.  For a sentiment, I went with an Early Espresso "thanks" from the Greetings Thinlets.  I also wanted a little pop of color, so a couple of tiny flowers in Watermelon Wonder were the perfect final touch.  And of course I had to stamp the envelope, I used my homemade butterfly stamp in Mint Macaron which coordinated nicely.

I hope you'll join me in this week's challenge and create your own card!  Just go to Try Stampin' -or not- on Tuesday for all the details plus more great samples from the Design Team.

Watercolor Wings for CCMC364

Today I'm going CLEAN AND SIMPLE with my favorite set WATERCOLOR WINGS.

Watercolor Wings Monarch

Isn't it cool how much this looks like a monarch!  But you'll never guess what colors I used, it's not what you think!  The stamped portion of the butterfly is built from just two colors, Crushed Curry and Watermelon Wonder!!  Isn't it crazy how those two colors produced this look!  But how in the world did those colors come to mind??  Well, look no further than this week's color challenge from Create with Connie and Mary!

CCMC364

As I looked at this color combo, I wasn't sure where to start.  Then I saw Watercolor Wings (it's always sitting on my desk!) and thought a butterfly might be the way to go.

Monarch Watercolor Wings

Here's how the layering process went: first layer Crushed Curry stamped off once, second layer Crushed Curry full ink, then lastly Watermelon Wonder!  But the real magic happened when I added the die cut layer of Basic Black....I couldn't believe how it transformed!

Watercolor Wings by Be Creative with Nicole

With such a gorgeous butterfly, all I needed was a simple background to let it shine.  A few polka dots, gold sequins and a simple sentiment made this the perfect CAS card!

OK, that's it for me today!  I am working on a new video for you, I think you'll love this fun technique I'm showing with Over the Rainbow.....so stay tuned!

Watercolor Wings

Isn't this just GORGEOUS!!  I love how the butterfly looks so bold against the light background....just stunning!

Watercolor Wings Butterfly

The coolest part of this butterfly is the colors....they are all ones I don't tend to use a lot but they are AMAZING together!  Hello Honey was the bottom layer, stamped off once.  Then added Delightful Dijon and Cajun Craze.  I made two of the same design then die cut the top later with the detailed thinlet and adhered it in the middle to allow the wings to pop up.

Watercolor Wings Card

Of course there is a matching envelope.  Butterfly Basics provides the companion stamps for it and the card.  It's wonderful having sets that coordinate so beautifully!

One last bit of business before we come to an end, the WEEKLY DEALS!  There are some great ones, so take advantage while you can!

Watercolor Wings Tunnel Card

Welcome to another Create with Connie and Mary Saturday Bog Hop!!  All during June we featured different FUN FOLD CARDS.  This first week of July we have one more to share, the TUNNEL CARD!

SAT BLOG HOP

You should be arriving from Mary Brown’s amazing blog Stamper Camper’s Corner, wasn’t her card fabulous!!  If you are just starting out here, welcome and enjoy the ride!  Be sure to stop at each blog to check out all of the cool cards we have for you today.

Since I have been very obsessed with butterflies lately, I used Watercolor Wings yet again for my card today.

Gold Watercolor Wings

Seeing these GORGEOUS butterflies never gets old!!  I went a different route though and did a neutral color palette.  With the pop of gold, this is a winner!

Inside tunnel card

And how about the inside WOW factor!  This cool 3D effect that you get with the top layer of cardstock is really stunning!  Let's look at it from a different angel so you can really see what's going on here.

Inside tunnel card from the top

Amazing!  And of course with it folding flat you can ship this beauty in a standard envelope!

inside butterfly

Let's talk about the inside real quick.  I did my tunnel a little bit different than I have in the past.  Normally I would keep the cutout in the center panel that pops out.  This time I used the new Lots of Labels framelits and they were wider than that panel.  the score lines overlapped onto the frame a bit but it certainly didn't take away from the effect!

And how about the sweet butterflies inside the card!  They have a coordinating color layout with the large butterfly on the front that I will show you next.

golden butterfly

I am loving this golden butterfly!  The bottom layer is Sahara sand stamped off once, Soft Suede along the edges, and Early Espresso markings over top.....so GORGEOUS!

Gold Watercolor Wings
I so LOVE this card, I hope you enjoyed it too!  Now it’s time for the next stop, Debbie Henderson’s gorgeous blog Debbie’s Design’s to see her amazing card for today.  Don’t forget to continue through all of the blogs, you won’t want to miss a thing!

Watercolor Wings

I have a confession to make......I am SERIOUSLY OBSESSED with WATERCOLOR WINGS!!  Any of you that have this stamp set know exactly what I'm talking about!  There are so many ways to make these gorgeous butterflies, I could sit at my desk and stamp all day!

Butterfly Thank You

I used the small butterfly for the first time on my card for the Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge.  Before I get to all the details, let's look at the sketch.

TSSC366

I have to admit, this sketch was definitely a challenge for me.....I had to sit and think awhile!  Once I pulled out Watercolor Wings, things got rolling.

Watercolpr Wings2

I went with my two new favorite In Colors, Watermelon Wonder and Tip Top Taupe for my main colors.

Watercolor Wings

I made the butterfly similar to the one I shared for the Single Stair Step Card Tutorial.  I started with a stamped off Sahara Sand base, added Blushing Bride then Watermelon Wonder.  The sentiment comes from a different set, Endless Thanks.  I liked the banner, it pairs nicely with the butterfly.

Watercolpr Wings2

Did you notice the bit of Watermelon Wonder Dotted Lace Trim??  I used it in place of scallops in the sketch.  There's something else worth noting....the polka dot paper.  I pulled it from the June My Paper Pumpkin kit!  I will show you more about how I used my kit later in the week, including how to use this great paper wisely!

Inside with Endless Thanks

Lastly, let's take a peek inside the card.  I used the banner again to complete my sentiment.

Now it’s up to you!  How about joining the challenge with me??  Just go to Techno Stamper for all the details plus more great samples from the Design Team.
